School of Art
CMU’s School of Art provides an unparalleled convergence of studio practice in many media, advanced technology and critical theory. Art students and faculty enrich CMU’s rich interdisciplinary culture with collaborations in fields ranging from engineering to AI, chemistry to music.
Current faculty are working artists who exhibit work around the world and are dedicated to providing students with a challenging and intensive education that encourages them to grow in both technical and distinctive artistic vision.
One of the top-ranked U.S. art schools, the School of Art maintains a lively schedule of lectures and residencies by leading contemporary artists, collaborations with the Carnegie Museum of Art, the Andy Warhol Museum, and other museums and galleries, as well as innovative programming at the Center for Arts in Society, the Frank-Ratchye STUDIO for Creative Inquiry and through the cross-disciplinary instruction in physical computing, animation and other technologies in CMU’s IDeATE program.
