School of Design

The School of Design at Carnegie Mellon is among the oldest and most respected programs in North America. The school has led pioneering programs in the design of products, communications and, most recently, environments, and pushed the boundaries of interaction design, service design and social innovation.

The emerging field of transition design, oriented toward creating socially and environmentally sustainable futures, was founded in the School of Design. With an emphasis on collaborative and co-design approaches, students are equipped to tackle large, complex problems that confront society today.

As one of the only leading design programs to offer degrees at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels within a top-ranked multidisciplinary research university, we offer an integrated design process that incorporates perspectives from designers, artists, architects, engineers, computer scientists, data scientists and humanists.

Your support will ensure that talented students can gain design skills to prepare for productive careers and play a role in solving the most urgent global challenges.
